Qled is a tweak of existing lcd technology while oled is a new technology altogether. Qled refers to the quantum dot film used by manufacturers to improve brightness and color reproduction. Samsung pioneered this technology in 2013 but soon started licensing it to other companies like sony and tcl. Tvs technology is growing day after day and assembling the latest new models with the time.

Samsung is promoting qled panels for its high end tvs while lg is pushing organic light emitting diode oled for its flagship models. Qled according to samsung stands for q uantum dot led tv oled is a fundamentally different technology from lcd the major type of tv today. Qled stands for quantum dot light emitting diode which in theory at least has a great deal in common with oled most notably that each pixel can emit its own light in this case thanks to quantum dots tiny semiconductor particles only a few nanometres in size. Qled is a variation of led lcd adding a quantum.

We can summarise the oled vs qled battle in one sentence. The term was coined by tv manufacturer hisense and i can only assume its inception was a direct response to the rise of oled tvs. The o in oled means organic and the q in qled means quantum the u in uled however refers to ultra and as it turns out the concept is about as slippery as it sounds. Qled life is higher compared to oled tvs and the screen won t cause a burning effect as oled tvs do.

In theory oled tvs should offer better overall eye comfort than qled and any other lcd based screen because oled produces significantly less blue light than led backlit qled tvs. Qled is a marketing term whereas organic light emitting diodes oled is a display technology. Like oled it s emissive which could lead to more responsive refresh rates and better contrast. Qled can produce accurate colors even at high brightness levels.

Now a purchaser suffers confusion about what is the right one for him. The one major tv manufacturer not aboard the oled train is samsung which is instead promoting a rival technology called qled.
