I unplugged it thinking maybe it ll reset itself or something but no luck.
Whirlpool cooktop hot surface light stays on.
This causes the light to come on and stay on as long as the stove top is above a certain temperature.
If you have 4 different lights for each burner then the light that is on would tell you what switch is bad.
The problem i was having was the hot cooktop stayed on all the time 24x7 even when the cooktop surface had been off for hours and was cold.
The still work too and so does the oven.
The hot surface light is controlled by a switch located in the burner.
When the cooktop is unlocked the light will remain on.
I have a whirlpool electric range with the 4 burners on top not flat.
This range has two indicator lights a burner on light and a hot cooktop light.
The surface is cold to the touch and has been on for over 24 hours with no stove use.
When it comes down to the whirlpool electric range cooktop it has the control lock feature.
This means if the cooktop is heated up the temperature light will stay on.
In this case you need to wait until the cooktop cools down and the light will go off immediately.
None of the burners are on and everything seems to be connected right.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If it is just a cooktop on light then it is one of the switches that has failed.
A broken hot surface switch on one of the burners cau.
It shouldn t negatively impact anything other than giving a false indication of a hot burner.
The basic idea is that when the stove top heats up the temperature sensor sends a signal either directly to the light or to a control board.
The hot surface indicator light does not turn off even after several hours of no use.
When the stove top cools down the signal is no longer sent and the light goes out.
If you only have one hot surface indicator light then you will need to check each burner to find out which switch is bad.
I have a samsung ne58k9500sg electric slide in range.
If there is only one hot surface light for the whole cooktop then the sensor in one of the burners has likely failed and is causing the whole cooktop light to stay on.
